She went on to teach for eight years in Calmar, Iowa, and then in Wisconsin in Genoa, St. Marys Ridge and La Crosse (St. Michaels Orphanage) before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Occupational Therapy from St. Catherine University in St. Paul. After completing her doctorate, she returned to Viterbo as assistant professor of Spanish from 1990 to 1993.
